  • Ukończył z wyróżnieniem Wydział Elektroniki Politechniki Gdańskiej w roku 1974 na specjalności Elektronika Ciała Stałego.
  • W roku 1975 odbywał jednoroczną służbę wojskową w Szkole Oficerów Rezerwy.
  • Uzyskał dyplom doktora nauk technicznych na Wydziale Elektrycznym Politechniki Poznańskiej w roku 1980 na podstawie przedłożonej rozprawy doktorskiej pt. Analiza zniekształceń nieliniowych w filtrze z pojedynczym elementem aktywnym z wykorzystaniem szeregów Volterry.
  • W roku 2008 uzyskał dyplom doktora habilitowanego nauk technicznych w dyscyplinie telekomunikacja na podstawie rozprawy habilitacyjnej pt. Analiza i synteza nieliniowych układów i systemów telekomunikacyjnych z wykorzystaniem ciągłego i dyskretnego szeregu Volterry.
  • W latach 1974-2014, z krótszymi lub dłuższymi przerwami, był nauczycielem akademickim na obecnym Wydziale Telekomunikacji, Informatyki i Elektrotechniki Uniwersytetu Technologiczno-Przyrodniczego im. Jana i Jędrzeja Śniadeckich (d. Akademii Techniczno-Rolniczej) w Bydgoszczy. Od listopada 2014 jest zatrudniony na stanowisku profesora nadzwyczajnego w Katedrze Telekomunikacji Morskiej, na Wydziale Elektrycznym Akademii Morskiej w Gdyni.
  • Przez dłuższy okres przebywał na stażach naukowo-badawczych, jako stypendysta, w Instytucie Telekomunikacji ETH (Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule) Zürich, gdzie pracował pod kierunkiem prof. Georga S. Moschytza, oraz w Katedrze Telekomunikacji Uniwersytetu w Kaiserslautern, Niemcy (jako stypendysta Fundacji im. Aleksandra von Humboldta), gdzie pracował pod kierunkiem prof. Wernera Rupprechta.
  • Pracował, zbierając doświadczenie zawodowe, również w następujących instytucjach: Katedra Telekomunikacji Uniwersytetu Technicznego w Hamburgu-Harburgu (TUHH), jako asystent naukowy, w przedsiębiorstwie Prodata GmbH, Hamburg (w charakterze inżyniera projektanta), w Ośrodku Obliczeniowym Uniwersytetu Technicznego w Hamburgu-Harburgu (jako inżynier specjalista), jako kierownik Zakładu Dydaktycznego Elektronika we Francusko-Polskiej Wyższej Szkole Nowych Technik Informatyczno-Komunikacyjnych (EFP) w Poznaniu oraz jako kierownik zespołu informatyków w Banku Handlowym w Warszawie SA, Oddział Regionalny w Bydgoszczy.
  • Dr hab. inż. Andrzej Marek Borys specjalizuje się, obecnie, w problematyce szeroko rozumianej telekomunikacji, analizie systemów nieliniowych oraz przetwarzaniu sygnałów i informacji.
  • Prowadzi zajęcia głównie z zakresu przetwarzania sygnałów w telekomunikacji, sieci i systemów bezprzewodowych oraz informatyki stosowanej.
